The most often used swabs are cotton tipped with long fiber cotton strands. The cotton is soft, absorbent and compatible with many chemicals. The drawback is that most cotton particulates when used in any type of cleaning application. The exception are the very tightly wrapped HUBY cotton swabs which are used for microscopic cleaning.

ESD Safe

ESD safe polyurethane foam tipped swabs are good for applications that would expose ESD sensitive parts to final inspection cleaning from a swab. Usually treated foam that is now rendered static dissipative or possibly anti-static or even conductive. The handle material is also a specially formulated resin that has static dissipative performance qualities.

Foam Tipped

Foam tipped swabs are soft, absorbent and good for many swab and cleaning applications. Standard polyurethane foam is not resistant to strong solvents, such as acetone. The foam is reticulated to open the cells of the foam for added absorbtion capacity. Available styles are typically a foam sock-head or a wrapped foam.

Polyester Tipped

Polyester tipped swabs are chemically inert to most cleaning chemicals. They are only absorbent to alcohols and not to water. They are soft and fairly durable if used in an aggressive cleaning application. Normally more expensive than foam or cotton tipped swabs.
